Alvin Norlin Pool and Splash Pad

Shallow Water Lifeguarding Certification
This course is available to new hires of the Alvin Norlin Pool and Splashpad.
Must be 15 years old on or before June 6, 2026.

Mandatory pretest consists of:

• 100 yards continuous swim, demonstrating rhythmic breathing
• 2 minutes of treading water with legs only
• Swimming 20 yards to retrieve a submerged 10 lb object, returning to the wall, and exiting the pool within a given time. The pretest will be conducted on Saturday, May 23.

This is a blended learning class that includes about 7 hours of online instruction done on your own time, as well as in-person training, practice,
and testing times as follows:

• Tuesday-Thursday, May 26-28, 3:30-5:30 pm
• Saturday, May 30, 9-2 pm
• Tuesday-Thursday, June 2-4, 3:30-5:30 pm
• Saturday, June 6, 9-2 pm

Price includes pretest, online and in-person classes, CPR mask, and Red Cross fee.
Cost: $175
New hires may receive full reimbursement at the end of the season for working at the Alvin Norlin Pool. You must average 6+ hrs/week for the entirety of the season. No refunds will be given if you do not complete the class or work the minimum number of hours.
Applications can be picked up at City Hall beginning March 30 and are due by May 1. Interviews will be scheduled for the week of May 4.
